The Big Sing Regional competition was last Friday at the Town Hall. There were 21 choirs performing with Villa having Vivace, Con Brio and Prima Voce perform. Students spent all day and night being perfect ambassadors for Villa!
All choir members spent all of Term 1 and 2 learning and critiquing their repertoire to the point where they all performed to the highest level they possibly could doing everyone proud. Listening to other choirs and experiencing the youth of today singing with such commitment and passion was inspiring.
Choral Expert Andrew Withington said he was so moved by Vivace’s gala performance of Strange Fruit that the hairs on the back of his neck were standing up and he wasn’t sure whether to clap at the end as it was so emotionally heavy.
Chris Archer our former HOD Music who composed Ave Maria, said he was honoured that Con Brio performed that piece with such grace.
We are very proud of Prima Voce (Year 7- 10 junior choir) who performed beautifully. For many it was their first time experiencing the Big Sing and performing on the Town Hall stage. They were delighted to receive the award for ‘Outstanding Recital Performance by a Junior Choir.’ Prima Voce are supported by senior leaders Jemma de Burger, Courtney Mark, Cerys Pickover, accompanist Xiyi Zhang and conductor Ms Elliott.
