06 Sep Update Mon 6 Sept: Return to On-site learning at Alert Level 2 on Thursday 9 September:
Kia ora tatou,
It was such welcome news to hear this afternoon that we are moving down to Alert Level 2 from 11:59pm Tuesday 7 September, with schools opening for instruction on Thursday 9 September. The College will use Wednesday to prepare the site and to work with staff to prepare for the new Alert Level 2 settings for schools. These settings have not yet been provided by the Ministry of Education to schools, so we are unable to finalise our Health and Safety plan for return under Alert Level 2 or to provide you with additional information until then. Senior online learning classes scheduled for students on Wednesday will continue, and seniors can continue with work already set. Juniors have already had a week of work set, so they have plenty to carry on with. Last Friday I signposted to families the likelihood of schools being given a Teacher Only Day to prepare for Level Two if we were to change levels, and this has now been confirmed for Wednesday. The existing “bubble” of students who were attending each day at Level 3 will still be able to be supervised at school on Wednesday. Could these few families please let Ms Heenan know if your daughter will be attending. The senior textiles bubble have an arrangement made for Wednesday and this will continue. The senior Art bubble was not scheduled for Wednesday.
The Director General of Health has stated that mask wearing is strongly recommended for students aged 12 and above. By doing so everyone contributes to keeping our community safe. Wearing a mask will help protect all our community, particularly those not fully vaccinated and those who are more medically vulnerable or have family members who are.
On return to school this Thursday we ask students to wear mufti, which involves wearing something yellow in support of “R U OK Day.” The timing of this day is ideal coinciding with our return, and throughout the day we ask that people check in with each other as we all adjust to the return to on site learning.
For the rest of Term 3, students can opt to wear full Winter or Summer uniform. On Monday 13 September we have College photos for all Sporting, Cultural, Service and Academic groups. We ask that all students wear Summer uniform on this day, if possible. Ms. Craig will be providing details of the schedule for the day closer to the time.
We are looking forward to welcoming the students back on Thursday morning, bright and cheerful in masks and wearing as much yellow as they can.
Acting Principal (Term 3, 2021)
