The STAR @ UC Programme allows secondary school students to enrol in first-year degree-level courses while they are still in year 12 & 13. Courses are offered both on-campus at UC and as distance learning. Most courses are funded by the Ministry of Education STAR funding. The programme offers keen and capable students a stimulating challenge and an opportunity to make a head start on their tertiary degree study. It is an opportunity to extend students in a particular subject area, too.

In 2016, we have two girls enrolled in the STAR programme.

Emilie Feasey (Year 13) has completed the Introduction to Computer Science semester 1 paper at UC which included computer programming in a high-level language with special emphasis on style and structure. Emilie achieved an outstanding A+ result. Emilie is enrolled for the second semester Introduction to Computer Science paper also which includes algorithms, computability, complexity and object-oriented programming.

Amy Inwood (Year 13). We would also like to congratulate Amy (our Academic Captain) who has attained an impressive A+ average after the first semester of a full year mathematics paper at the University of Canterbury.
