Music

Music helps to build confidence and self-esteem and Villa Maria College has a strong Music Department. Each year the Music Department celebrates its national achievers.

The Con Brio choir continues to be one of the top secondary school choirs in New Zealand and in 2006 travelled to Rome where they performed for His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.

Group tuition is offered to students free of charge in singing, string, woodwind and brass instruments. For a low charge, students may also have tuition in drums/percussion and keyboards. There are numerous opportunities to perform in festivals and competitions and within the College.

A limited number of instruments can be hired from the College at the beginning of each academic year.

Highly qualified itinerant music teachers are employed to teach students in small groups. Due to the high demand for this service, priority goes to students who are taking Year 10 to Year 13 music performance courses.
