Exam Update – Scholarship and Derived Grades

14 Nov Exam Update – Scholarship and Derived Grades

Posted Monday 14 November at 5pm (Please also read post below from earlier in the day)

Dear families,

We have just received the following from NZQA:

Posted Monday 14th November at 1pm

Dear Parents and Whanau,

I trust everyone is safe and well as they read this.

The current situation with the earthquakes in North Canterbury overnight poses some challenges for the College, staff and girls as they prepare for their N.C.E.A. examinations.  The College is aware of the disruption posed to many and supportive of each girl’s needs.  In doing so we also work to ensure stability and constancy for the girls in the face of uncertain events and have made the decision to proceed with examinations.  The attendance rate of 98% this morning reflects the enormous determination and courage of our girls.  Their resilience in the face of adversity is a trait of which we are very proud.

We will be applying for bulk derived grades for all Villa Maria College students sitting NCEA exams on Monday, 14th November.  This includes students enrolled in Level One Science and Level Two Classical Studies.  This means any girl sitting an examination today will not be disadvantaged and her practice examination results, if better than her performance today, will be awarded to her.  The school will be applying on behalf of all girls involved in examinations today.  Individuals who are not able to sit today due to illness should follow the usual derived grade procedure.

Today’s scholarship examinations for Scholarship History and Scholarship Classics have been cancelled.

Junior examinations have been postponed until later this week.  They are scheduled to be sat on Wednesday (Science and Mathematics) and Thursday (Languages).  More information and a detailed timetable will follow.

As the situation evolves and we know more, I will work to ensure this information is fed through to families as we receive it.  In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.
