22 Jun A Budding Entrepreneur
Emma Murdoch (Year 13) from Villa Maria College was part of the winning team at the 2015 Enterprise in Action competition in Auckland recently.
She was selected to be one of the 80 New Zealand student entrepreneurs to be flown to Auckland courtesy of the Young Enterprise Trust, a charity which helps students develop their entrepreneurial skills. Emma was placed in a team of eight other students who won the Global Enterprise Challenge and a $2000 Massey University scholarship.
The winning team was mentored by representatives from BNZ, their corporate host, and had to design an innovative exhibit to inform communities, government and the media about the way light affects our lives.
The team had six hours to complete a business plan, a pitch and presentation. Their idea was to create a travelling exhibition to visit High Schools throughout New Zealand, providing an interactive educational experience for students.
The whole weekend was such an eye opener,” says Emma.
Everything I have learnt this whole year in Business Studies, and more, was compacted into a weekend. It allowed me to take a hands on approach and learn key skills that I can easily take into my future life.
