The following outlines the behaviour management system for students
and staff of Villa Maria College. This procedure will be followed in all
cases where students exhibit unacceptable behaviour in class that
interrupts the teaching and learning for the other students.
Discipline:
Level 1:
The student is given a ‘friendly' informal reprimand.
Level 2:
If
the student continues with the unacceptable behaviour or fails to
follow another classroom rule the teacher will write the student's name
on the board and explain clearly that any further breaches of acceptable
behaviour in class will result in her referral.
A Think Time
can be issued at the teacher's discretion to allow the student 10
minutes in the Referral Room to calm down. This is an option only.
Level 3:
If the student continues the misbehaviour she is immediately referred to the nearest class on the Referral Room List.
Documentation
The student may be is given the following documents as part of a disciplinary process:
- A
referral restoration form to be completed during the referral period
which is then taken home to be signed by parent/caregiver.
Restoration Process:
a) The student must arrange to meet with the teacher prior to the next lesson at a time suitable to the teacher.
b)
The teacher and student will discuss the completed referral restoration
form which is then signed by the student and teacher. The teacher then
completes the restoration achieved/ not achieved section of the form.
c)
The teacher gives the referral restoration form to the student's Head
of House to be held in the student's file and for the Head of House to
take further action if restoration is not achieved and behaviour is not
modified.
Consequences
a)
Where a student is given more than one referral in any term, they will
be required to meet with their Head of House and to undertake a Thursday
detention at Head of House's discretion.
b) A pattern of referrals will result in a meeting between the student's Head of House and their parents/caregivers.
c)
More serious patterns of misbehaviour or serious breaches of college
conduct may involve other College student support staff such as the
Guidance Counsellor, Assistant Principal (Pastoral Care) and
Learning Support staff or outside agencies.
Inquiries
Any inquiries regarding the Behaviour Management system should be directed to the Assistant Principal (Pastoral Care).
